Americans are living longer lives reported the CDC September 2007.

As people age it is important to remain active.

There are numerous benefits to staying active. Bones remain stronger, blood pressure and weight problems may be avoided, and regular exercise can boost serotonin the "feel good" brain chemical, thus decreasing the chance of depression. It's never too late to start.

Staying active fit can be fun and easy.

If you have not been active start out slow even if it`s just a 10 minute walk.

Reach out and get a fitness buddy. It`s hard to cancel if someone is counting on you. Look for parking spots further from the door when shopping, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Do housework at a quick pace. Play your favorite music and dance. Maintain friendships and attend activities at your local senior centers, friendships will help you stay active.

Make exercise a habit. Keep a daily log or calendar so you can check your progress. Do not become discouraged it may take weeks or months before noticing any changes. Remember to warm up first for 10-15 minutes including stretching. Pay attention to your body. Stop exercising if you feel very out of breath, dizzy, faint, and nauseous or have pain.

Remember before starting any fitness routine talk to your doctor.

So get out there and have fun and enjoy life as you age!
